Self-assured and morally lacking

On February 26, 2012, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot dead by George Zimmerman, a 26 year old Hispanic and neighborhood watch volunteer. Zimmerman claimed self-defense. Beyond the fact that the incident was a terrible tragedy with a young life cut short little is known about the case.

But Trayvon was black, and so the left, imbued with some self-proclaimed supernatural clairvoyance of which would put the most delusional psychic to shame, has weaved facts and fantasy and fiction and constructed a scenario that fits perfectly with the leftist vision; a perfectly innocent young black man was hunted down and killed by a racist white man.

However the reality is that nobody knows what transpired that fateful night except Zimmerman. Zimmerman may have indeed intentionally murdered a perfectly innocent young man, or Zimmerman may have been 100% justified in his decision to shoot, or the facts may lie somewhere in between. Again no one knows.

This lack of facts or information, however, was quickly brushed aside as the left’s Pavlovian response to any racial injustice, true or perceived, took over. It was once again time to use any incident as an opportunity to paint America as the racist country they believe it is. In the view of the left, whites hate blacks and no number of elected black presidents or adored black celebrities, entertainers and athletes will change their opinion on this. To do so would be to undermine an entire third of the leftist trinity of race, gender and class through which they view and judge the world.

One of the first steps was to take a few shades of colour off Zimmerman via the New York Time’s creation, from whole cloth, of a new designation of an individual, recasting Zimmerman as a “white Hispanic”. It was a designation the Times had never once used to describe an individual in its 150 year history. But without a “white” antagonist this tragedy would have been downgraded on the social justice scale to just one minority killing another, and that doesn’t rile the left.

As the frenzy picked up steam, this new definition of “white Hispanic” was also taken up by other media outlets.

A civil society rests upon the notion that every person is assumed innocent until proven guilty. That we adhere to due process. And most importantly, that a predictable system of justice rather than mob-rule determines guilt or innocence.

The left adheres to none of this.

This should come as little surprise as no group is more self-assured and impressed with their judgement and intention than the left. Unfortunately, however, unwavering self-assuredness combined with a complete lack of morally clarity or discernment (leftist hallmarks) makes for a dangerous combination.

On the macro level this has led to millions being slaughtered, starved and enslaved in the name of utopian communist visions.

On this incident it compelled both Spike Lee, and then Roseanne Barr to tweet what they thought where Zimmerman’s address to hundreds of thousands in the hope that mob-rule would redress what they perceive as a de facto injustice.  As it turned out the address Lee tweeted proved to be that of people completely uninvolved – an elder lady with a heart condition and her husband – who were forced to flee to a hotel in fear of their lives. Spike Lee did offer an apology – though merely for tweeting the incorrect address and not for the despicable act he had performed.

Al Sharpton and the other race-baiters were quick to stage their predictable America-hating rallies. High school students in Miami were successfully riled up enough to ransack and loot a Walgreens store as part of what was described as a “demonstration”.

CBC News oddly noted that Zimmerman “has not been charged despite international attention to the case”, as if having “international attention” equates to having more relevant facts. But for the left, consensus, whether in regards to global warming or a murder case, does indeed substitute for just that.

Trayvon Martin is also continually described as an “unarmed” man, though concluding this after the fact means little since at the time Zimmerman would have had no way of knowing if Martin was armed or not. Furthermore, if there was a physical altercation, since when does a 6’3” tall individual need a weapon to inflict fatal harm?

Despite what the media portray this is not a black/white issue but, like most issues tearing at the fabric of our society, it is a left/right issue.

This case reveals the stark, unbridgeable divide between the left, which sees racism in every nook and cranny of society, and the right, which instead chooses to defer emotions and snap judgements to facts, reason and due process.

While this incident will pass, it will forever linger in the minds of yet another generation of young blacks, a generation successfully brainwashed into believing that the freest and least racist country in the world has it in for them. What a terrible view and outright lie to grow up believing.

Once again I say to the left, congratulations.
